About our church
The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Hayes, is of historical and architectural interest.

Our congregation ranges from the newborn to ninety year olds. The main Sunday service has a choir to lead us in worship. Our youth organisations attend on Parade Sundays and our Sunday School join us at the Communion.

Our FLOWER festival theme is HYMNS and previous pictures are in the gallery. Dr Triplett's school is very involved in our parish life but other schools visit to see our exhibits and church artefacts.

Our church building is probably the OLDEST building in Hayes if not the whole of the London Borough of Hillingdon. A pre-reformation wall painting of St Christopher can be seen opposite the South Door. Many of the previous Rectors and Vicars have given their names to local roads, (Hemmen, Freeman, and Hinton). In the Reformation period one vicar (Henry Gold) was burned at Tyburn but others had their ministry rewarded by Bishoprics.

The WESLEYs preached here in the 1700s. The building has 3 significant tombs & the remains of the earlier pre-reformation decoration and tiling can be seen inside. In the 1870s there was a restoration by Gilbert Scott; but that and other restorations in the 1960/70 have been financed by the congregation. We are a WORSHIPPING and LIVING church and not an ancient building. The Mass is said daily for the needs of the Parish.

In the graveyard can be found gravestones of local dignitaries AND the ordinary people. EACH person has been a light in the world in their own generations. The oldest tombstone outside in the graveyard is 1660 but earlier brasses & memorials dating from the 12th C. can be found inside the church. These include purportedly the oldest church brass in Middlesex.

We have renovate the sanctuary & south walls inside the building. This work cost in the region of £63 000. We have replaced the lead stolen from the roof and marked valuable items with "Smartwater". This has NOT stop them stealing it again! Now we have to pay for it. YOU can help by making a donation(see below)?

We invite you to join us for worship. Contact us about Baptisms, Confirmations & Weddings. Coffee is served after Mass on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Thank you for supporting us in the past. We need your help NOW. Have you bought your copy of the Angelus? May be you give a monetary donation to help continue our 1200 years of ministry to the people of Hayes. Please use the donation button below or a GIft AID envelope.
