All Saints, Little Munden

About our church
All Saints’ Church looks out over the village of Dane End and the fields, hills and woods that surround it. It serves the village, and the hamlets and isolated homes around, including Haultwick and Green End. Archaeological evidence indicates that settlement here probably dates back to 2000 BC.

The church is the oldest building in this ancient community, parts of it dating from the 11th century. There may have been an earlier wooden chapel on the site. The monuments in and around the building remind us of the many generations who have worked and worshipped here, in direct contact with the beauty of its natural setting.

In the 14th and 15th centuries the distinctive Thornbury Tombs were built to commemorate one of the more affluent local families. They are described and illustrated in links below.

Since 2006 All Saints’ has been part of the benefice of Standon and The Mundens with Sacombe. The three churches share regular worship, based firmly on scriptural teaching. Members of all ages meet in a variety of other settings for study, discussion and prayer. Music is an important element in the life of the benefice – Sacombe and Little Munden share a choir which also meets regularly with Standon’s choristers. There is an active instrumental group.

There are plans to create a toilet and kitchen, plus meeting room, at the back of the church. The conservation of the churchyard flora is to be reviewed.

“Our News” below will show you Benefice services "at a glance" on a single page that can be printed and there is an additional page for our Christmas programme. You will also find information on activities for children and young people and on small group and bible study meetings for adults. There is a page on the bells and bellringing, too. "All services and events in this benefice", further down the page, is a good overall guide to Benefice services.
