From the Rectory

It is good to be back after the accident. We may not be 100% but we are back and it feels good. I am almost there except for the headaches and back pain, Christine struggles to walk but we have both been told it will still be a long recovery.

A new year and new challenges. Elsewhere in the magazine you will read of some of those challenges and also reasons to give thanks. Later in the year I will be thinking with you about what a revised sabbatical might look like after last years' was postponed and how both churches may need to develop.

The season of Lent will soon be upon us leading up to Easter and I hope you will join us for our Ash Wednesday Communion and subsequent Lent Course this year as part of being the church in our community.

Later in the year our churches will be taking part in the countrywide celebration of our Queen's Jubilee and the arrival of the world to Britain for the Olympics.

There is a lot to do and to respond to and to enjoy, so may we do this and praise God for all that we do have in common together.

Ian Whitehead

ANSLOW NEWS

Christmas Market
The Christmas Market on 19th November 2011 was very well attended. Thanks must go to everyone involved in the event and for donations of sale items, prizes, cakes etc., and to the many stall holders who participated. Thanks to Dorothy Hallam for her kind offer to pay for the hire of the Village Hall and to Mary Johns for her paintings. The Market raised £883 for Church funds.

Christening Anniversaries
During November 2011 three year old Aodhan Hutchinson returned to Holy Trinity to receive his third Gospel Book, Luke, while Sunday 8th January was a special occasion for little Erin Hutchinson who returned to receive her Matthew Good News Gospel to celebrate one year since her Christening at Holy Trinity Church Anslow.

Reverend Ian and Audrey Smith
We welcomed Reverend Ian back during November 2011, also our resident organist Audrey Smith. We were all thrilled to see both of them back with us again.

Skittle for a Turkey
'Skittle for a Turkey Evening' - was a huge success enjoyed by all. Assorted nibbles on the tables greeted the competitors and mulled wine and mince pies were served in the interval. The atmosphere was brilliant, cheering filled the hall and the winners were 'Mac's Lasses'. The winner was Shirley Haywood & spies tell me she shared the prize with her opponent. Roll the coin was played in the interval for a variety of bottled wines and spirits. £260 was made on the night. Thanks must go to Terry and Jean Harvey and Barbara Gibbs for a splendid event and to all those who helped on the night and gave donations of wine and prizes.

Carol Service
The Family Carol Service on 18th December at Holy Trinity was not as well attended as we would have wished. It was made very special though by the children of 'Messy Church' who performed and sang for us. Thanks must go to Lizzie Bull and Annie Andre who put so much effort into this monthly children's service. Thanks also to all those who worked so hard to decorate the church, both inside and out and to those who gave donations to buy flowers.

Carol Concert
Carol Concert - by Anslow Players on 18th December at the Village Hall was thoroughly enjoyed by well over 100 people who attended. The hall rang out with carols and Christmas songs. The choir and the soloists sang beautifully. Thanks must go to Tony Martin, Caroline Pegg and all cast members for all their hard work. The proceeds of the concert are to go to Holy Trinity.

Carol singing around the village
Our best ever with 27 adults and 7 children turning out to sing. We enjoyed refreshments & were made very welcome at various venues throughout the village & £266.88 was raised for Church funds., Thanks to everyone who contributed to make this a very traditional and a very special night.

Display Board
'Messy Church' has been presented with a display board to enable visitors to view the work done by the children at their Sunday morning class. Grateful thanks to Ted Killick who has made this superb item, saving us a considerable amount of money. His skill knows no bounds. Messy Church is where young children come along to the 11.15 am Sunday Service and have a great time. For further details contact Lizzy 01283 810558 - lizzyhodgetts@yahoo.co.uk

YMCA HOMELESS APPEAL
There will be a box at the back of the church for anyone who wishes to donate food, i.e. tins, boxes of biscuits, cereals, etc. The box will then be sent monthly to the YMCA.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Wishing Mrs Gladys Henry a happy 88th birthday. Mrs Henry regularly worshipped at Holy Trinity Church until her illness prevented her doing so. Mrs Henry is always happy and likes to hear all the news of Holy Trinity and looks forward to receiving her church magazine each month.
