About our Parish

Ashwick is a hamlet in the Mendips, about 3 miles north of Shepton Mallet and 7 miles east of Wells. The parish also includes the villages of Oakhill and Gurney Slade. Although Oakhill is the larger village today, Ashwick is the older settlement, dating back to Anglo-Saxon times. It appears in the Doomesday Book as a settlement called Escewiche, which translates as the hamlet or farmstead by the ash trees.
