Robert's Reflections

To some the idea of authority is one of restrictions and constrain and indeed some do use this kind of authority to manipulate and control others for their own ends.

The authority of which Our Lord spoke and the authority that He lived out was very different.  He never sought to browbeat others into submission.  He always invited.  His kind of authority was the kind that left a lasting impression.  He compelled people by His example to respond.  It worked because He spoke to a person's situation.  He was rooted.  He understood and still does.  His were words that were spoken and understood.

Our Lord knows and understands our fears and anxieties about ourselves and our situation.  He is aware of the temptations we are subjected to and the demons that mock and threaten us.  There was never a halt at words only, important as they are.  He taught and still teaches throught the person He was, and is, and nowadays this is through the lives of those whom He calls to be His friends.  This is disturbing and it strikes to the heart of the matter, and hearts that are open to them.  Words and actions convey deeply felt truths to simple minds, and these words, if reflected and acted upon, can often bring reconciliation and healing, resulting in the birth of a new confidence and trust.

Each one of us are receptacles that carry the mysteries of God and it's a privileged role for those who take it seriously and it brings much joy that spills over into other lives.  The greatness of our mission in this world can be judged by how we accept our duties and obligations and also by how we carry out our daily tasks.  We hold the future of human society in our hands and it is always a make or break situation.

Today we are instilling impressions that will help shape the lives of future generations.  It is both a duty and a joy, but also a challenge.  The success of it depends on  how or why we do it.  Is it with authority that manipulates or browbeats others into submission - our own authority?  Or is it the authority of the Blessed Lord?  He is the one that gives the other person the freedom and space to blossom and grow, both as individuals and as members of community.

When we choose - we must choose wisely.  The future depends on it.

Blessings and much love,

Robert
