The present building was almost entirely rebuilt in 1866. The oldest part of the church is the base of the tower (1509-47).
The church has a wealth of interesting and historic features and artifacts including: The Jervaulx Screen, The East Window, The Reredos, The Altar, The Font and The Pulpit.
A large nave altar space was created in 2007. It is ideal for large-scale religious ceremonies. It is an excellent performance area, which can accommodate large choirs, brass bands and orchestras with seating for up to 250 people.
The graveyard is over four acres in area and reputed to be the largest parish church graveyard in England.
