A simple service of Holy Communion using Common Worship with seasonal additional prayers.
Sunday at 8:00 AM for 40 minutes

Parish Sung Eucharist (with Sunday Club) - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Our Sunday service is a Eucharist with Hymns and Mass settings chosen to reflect the season. There is a Sermon and prayers of intercession. The service is followed by refreshments. There is a small children's corner at the back of the church for toddlers to play (with their parents in attendance).

Sunday Club (Junior Church) - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday Club is our exciting church for children aged 4 - 11 years, run concurrently with the 10am Sunday Service (during School Term time including half-term Sunday's). Children enjoy their own songs, prayers and activities including craft and drama. All parents wishing children to take part are asked to complete and return the attached form. with thanks.

Family Service - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Our Family Service is held on the first, third and fifth Sundays monthly and involves a few simple songs, a bible reading and interactive talk for the children, prayers and sharing the peace. All are encouraged to come along to the Rutherwyke Room at 11am for refreshments first before we start at 11.30am.

Noah's Ark Toddler & pre-school group - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Noah's Ark is a Thursday Morning parent & toddler group for pre-school children and babies including fun songs, a story, play time and refreshments (breakfast is served from 9.30am - toast, tea etc...) Come along and join in the fun! Held during term time - Meet in the Rutherwyke room, behind St Mary's Church in Church Approach. Park outside the Vicarage in the car parking area, next to the church.
This group meets Term Time only. We don't meet during half-term week every Thursday at 9:30 AM for 2 hours

CHURCH & PARISH OFFICE OPEN EVENINGS - Come along to St Mary's Church on a Thursday evening to have a chat with Father Damian (6-7.15pm - Eucharist 7.30pm). You may like to use this opportunity to book a wedding, baptism or other service or just to ask about St Mary's Thorpe and have a look around the 10th Century Church.

All Souls Day Eucharist - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Thursday 2nd November 2017 at 7:30 PM for 1 hour
A traditional Sung Eucharist at which the deceased will be remembered by name. St Mary's Choir will lead the music on this special occasion. To add a name to the list to be remembered tonight, please email the parish office or write the names on the sheet by the entrance door inside St Mary's Church.

Remembrance Sunday - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday 12th November 2017 at 10:00 AM for 2 hours
We will gather on Remembrance Sunday at 10am in St Mary's Church for a special service Remembrance, with hymns, simple prayers, a homily and communion. At 10.45 we will form a procession and walk to the War Memorial in Thorpe Village (Mill Lane/Village Road/Green Road Junction) led by members of the Royal British Legion and local Uniformed Organisations for the traditional Act of Remembrance at 11am. This will be followed by refreshments back at St Mary's Church in the Rutherwyke Room at 11.30am.

Memorial Service - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday 26th November 2017 at 6:00 PM for 50 minutes
We will be remembering before God those whom we love but see no longer in a simple service of prayers, readings, hymns and reflections. There will be a chance to place the name of our loved one onto the prayer tree, to light a candle in their memory, and to take away a crocus bulb to plant to remind us that with death comes new life. The service is followed by tea in the Rutherwyke Room for those able to stay. St Mary's Church Office will be writing to invite the relatives of all those whose funerals were conducted by ministers at St Mary's, to join in this act of remembrance and witness.

Sunday 3rd December 2017 at 4:00 PM for ¾ hour
A family-friendly service of celebration in anticipation of Christmas, with the traditional Christingle (Orange, red ribbon, fruits and candle) which remind us that Jesus is the light of the world. The cash collection at this service will be sent on to the Children's Society. This service is followed by the switch-on of Thorpe Church Tower Christmas lights.

WINTER WONDERLAND Thorpe Village - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday 10th December 2017 at 4:00 PM for 2 hours
Help us light up Thorpe for Christmas 2017! We are encouraging the residents of Thorpe Village to decorate their homes with low-energy Christmas Lights ready for Thorpe Winter Wonderland! There will be processions of people following clues around the Village as they enjoy the festive decorations and complete the Christmas Quiz before returning to St Mary's Medieval Church for Christmas Carols, mulled wine and various festive stalls and entertainment. This is fun for all the family and not to be missed!

Lessons & Carols Service - Thorpe St Mary's Church

Our Traditional Candle-lit celebration of Christmas with carols (chosen by members of the congregation) readings and simple prayers. The service is followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the Rutherwyke Room. Our regular Church Choir will be joined by members of the Hythe Singers for this very special occasion - this service really is a brilliant way to begin the Christmas season in St Mary's Medieval Church!

St Mary's tradition of remembering the Nativity on Christmas Eve continues with our family 'Living Crib' Service, as we follow Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem with all your favourite carols and songs and catch a glimpse of what it may have been like on that first Christmas morning. Fun for all the family with activities for the children during the service! This earlier service will have something extra special for younger children as well as all ages, so get ready to follow the star to Jesus, light in the darkness! The service is followed by mulled wine, mince pies and soft drinks for the children. This year there will be additional space provided in the Rutherwyke Room.

Midnight Mass with Choir & carols - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday 24th December 2017 at 11:30 PM for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
St Mary's Medieval Church is the perfect place to celebrate the great feast of Christmas, just as people have done for over 1,000 years! Our Midnight Mass starts at 11.30pm with the carol, 'Once in Royal David's City' and includes some of our all-time favourite Christmas Carols. There are Christmas bible readings, prayers and a short Sermon, followed by Holy Communion. The first third of this service is candle-lit, to add to our festive feel and celebrations.

Christmas Day Sung Festival Eucharist - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Monday 25th December 2017 at 10:00 AM for 1 hour and 5 minutes.
On Christmas Morning we celebrate once again the birth of Jesus our Lord, with a Sung Festival Eucharist (Holy Communion). This service is for people of all ages, not least families with children. (There will be a children's Christmas talk and colouring activity sheets). The service is followed by refreshments in the Rutherwyke Room. Do join us on Christmas Morning, in our beautifully decorated medieval Church for the most wonderful celebration of the year.

Eve of the Epiphany of our Lord, Festival Sung Eucharist - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Friday 5th January 2018 at 7:00 PM for 1 hour
On twelfth night, (Friday 5th January 2018) the eve of the great Feast of the Epiphany of our Lord, we celebrate the arrival of the Magi (Wise Men) at the stable in Bethlehem. This is our last Christmas Service of the Season and includes popular Carols like The First Noel, We three Kings, As with Gladness men of old and O Worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness. Eve of Candlemas Eucharist - Thorpe St Mary's Church

On the eve of the feast the Church celebrates the Presentation of Christ in the Temple we will be holding a very special candle-lit Festival Eucharist. The service will last an hour and include bible readings a sermon and Holy Communion. The Service is followed by refreshments in the Rutherwyke Room.

Ash Wednesday Said Eucharist & Lunch - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Wednesday 14th February 2018 at 10:30 AM for ¾ hour
A service of Holy Communion for the Holy Day of Ash Wednesday. As part of our preparations for Lent, Ashes are placed on our heads marking the sign of the cross with the words, 'remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.' A simple soup lunch is available following the service at 11:30am onwards with Charity talk in the Rutherwyke Room, cost £5 each.
Mothering Sunday All-Age Eucharist - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday 11th March 2018 at 10:00 AM for 1 hour
We are holding a very special 10am all-age Eucharist with flowers for mums. All welcome on this day when we give thanks for our Mums and their love. The service is followed by Cafe Church (refreshments) for all in the Rutherwyke Room at 11am. There will also be a children's Sunday Club activities for those aged 4 - 12 years old during the sermon.

Palm Sunday Liturgy - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday 25th March 2018 at 10:00 AM for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Our Eucharist begins in the Rutherwyke Room with the reading of the Palm Gospel and blessing of our Palm Crosses before we form our procession around the church building. The children will go to 'Sunday Club' and the adults stay in church for the dramatic reading of the Passion Gospel, Sermon and Holy Communion. This service is an important start to our Holy Week devotions. (The Vestry & APCM follow at 11:30am, and then we have our bring and share lunch in the Rutherwyke Room).

Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) Palm Sunday - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Sunday 25th March 2018 at 11:30 AM for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Every year we hold an annual meeting at which a report is discussed, reflecting the life and challenges of our wonderful Church Family. We will discuss the financial report for 2017, and the challenges ahead along with the priorities set by the Parochial Church Council for 2018/19, and also think about our need to invest in our buildings and mission to Thorpe. At the meeting we will elect a new PCC with three positions being available this year. We will also reflect upon our growing 20:20 vision which includes the Diocesan Vision - Transforming Church, Transforming Lives. We will also discuss the challenge of meeting the new Parish Share Request with an increase in the Ministry Part of the Share now at £55k. The APCM is open to all members of St Mary's Electoral Roll. If you regularly worship at St Mary's or live within the Parish of Thorpe you may apply to join the Church Roll. Forms are available on this site and in Church and must be returned to St Mary's before Sunday 4th March 2018.

Good Friday Liturgy - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Friday 30th March 2018 at 2:30 PM for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Today we draw particular attention to silence within the service. At various points we pause together to reflect on what Jesus has done for us upon the Cross - the work of redemption. The service for Good Friday is divided into four main parts: 1. The ministry of the word including the Sermon. 2. The proclamation of the Cross. 3. The intercessions & devotions before a plain wooden cross. 4. Holy Communion from the reserved sacrament. The service will conclude with silence. This is a very moving liturgy which explore the themes of sacrifice as we reflect upon the cross and all that Jesus has done for us.
Easter Eve Vigil - Thorpe St Mary's Church
Saturday 31st March 2018 at 8:00 PM for 2 hours
The liturgy of the Easter Vigil is the most important of the whole Christian year. In accordance with ancient tradition, this night is one of Vigil for the Lord. The Vigil is in four parts: 1. The Service of Light - the ceremonies of the new fire and the (Paschal) Easter Candle; 2. An extended Liturgy of the Word - by candlelight, in the presence of the Christ through whom all creation came into being; 3. The Liturgy of Baptism when re renew our baptismal promises (and there may be some adult baptisms) 4. The Liturgy of the Sacrament when we meet the risen Christ in the paschal meal; the breaking of the bread and wine outpoured. Our Easter Vigil will start by the Wallace Room around the back of St Mary's Church. Don't miss this service, the highlight of the Christian Year! Afterwards we have our Easter party!!! Great fun for all.

On Easter Day we give thanks for the Risen Lord. Our Service at 10am and starts with people bringing hard-stem flowers to the front of the church to place into the cross to transform it from shame to beauty (please bring some flowers with you to Worship on Easter Day). The service should last about one hour, with Choir and includes the Easter Sermon, and Holy Communion. The service is followed by refreshments for all served at our Cafe Church in St Mary's Rutherwyke Room.
