The church was built in 1953 to cope with a growing housing development to the north of Castle Lane in Bournemouth. The money for its construction came from funds set aside for the rebuild of a church in Southampton City Centre which had been destroyed by bombs during the 2nd World War and was no longer needed. The church is single-cell with a square tower. Although it is rather bland from outside, the inside is beautiful with plastered walls and ceiling, enhanced by warm-tinted windows. The east-end stained-glass window is superb and restful.
