St Anne

St. Anne (Bowden Hill) is one of 5 Churches in the team ministry. The others are St. Bartholomew (Corsham), St. Cyriac (Lacock), St. John the Baptist (Gastard) and St. Philip and St. James (Neston).

Bowden Hill church was built by the elder brother of the Liberal Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone.

St Anne's Church is currently closed due to structural serious structural issues. On Tuesday 8 February 2022 the Parochial Church Council (PCC) of Lacock with Bowden Hill resolved to seek the repair of the church of St Anne’s Bowden Hill so that it can be used safely again for services and other events, and to seek to secure its long-term future as a place of worship and/or community facility. The church is currently closed due to structural problems which will cost at least £250,000 to put right simply to make the church safe for use. The Archdeacon of Malmesbury Christopher Bryan said this: “the Diocese of Bristol welcomes this decision from the PCC of Lacock with Bowden Hill and looks forward to working alongside the PCC and its Friends of St Anne’s sub-committee to help them generate the necessary funds to make the building safe and explore ways for it to be more regularly used for the benefit of the wider community”. If you wish to help the Friends of St Anne’s achieve this please contact them at [email protected].

Please note that with effect from 1st March 2024, the parish of Lacock with Bowden Hill joined a new grouping with St Peter’s Chippenham.
