The West End Project
St Mary's Church lies at the heart of our village and we want to be able to offer a space within it that can serve the community in a wider context than its traditional function as a place of worship. It will, of course, always be a sacred space for prayer and reflection, but it is large enough to be more than that. It already provides a venue for concerts, such as the Suffolk Villages Festival annual series of performances, but our development of our Café Church services on the first Sunday of the month has helped us understand that we need a space which will serve for smaller social gatherings.
Our long term aim is to carpet the whole of the west end of the church from the main walkway between the north and south doors to the west wall and tower arch. This will incorporate the Children's Corner, which will be updated, and provide us with a more comfortable and flexible area for social functions, and a range of less formal church services.
We have been very fortunate that during 2015 sufficient funds were gifted to this project to enable us to purchase a set of 40 new chairs and 10 new tables for use in this area. These have transformed the comfort and appearance of the space when it is used at our Cafe Church services. So we say a big thank you to all those good hearted people who contributed towards these purchases.
The next step is to procede with the carpeting of the space and we will shortly be obtaining estimates for this work. Once again we would be very grateful for any donations to help us with this stage of the project.
Please contact Revd. Judith or one of our churchwardens if you would like to help us, or if you want to know about are plans. Their details are available via the Contact Us tab on our home page, or the About the Parish link in the Other Links sidebar, also on the home page.
