St. Wilfrid preached on the banks of the Wharfe over 1300 years ago and a wooden church was soon established on the site of the present building. Worship has continued to this day and St. Wilfrid's is now a thriving church which has regular Sunday worship based manly on the traditional service and also family worship.
The church houses a very important collection of ancient stones. Thanks to a lot of hard work and funding from various bodies, these stones are now part of a fantastic display "Vikings in Burnsall". This display can be visited at any time during the day. Amongst the stones are various crosses and hog backed tombs. There are guides (in different languages) and an audio guide will be available from May 10th 2005.
Also of interest is the 15th Century alabaster panel which is on display in the Lady Chapel. It depicts the Adoration of the Magi and is of great historical value and interest.
