New Developments ahead
The Church has a fine J.J.Binns 3-manual Organ which was built originally for a Congregational Chapel in Manningham, Bradford. It was re-built for Carlton and installed in 1898. For the past 50 years it has been neglected and is presently being repaired at a cost of approximately £108,000. The Heritage Lottery Fund is the major contributor to the cost of the work having given/promised a Grant of £50,000. Other Grants have been made by The Pilling Trust, The Sir John Priestman Charity, The Council for the Care of Churches, The local Freemasons' Lodge, The Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust, The Garfield Weston Trust, The Alan Evans Memorial Trust as well as local Fundraising. The Parochial Church Council is extremely grateful to all supporters of this project.
Now, in December 2008 the Organ is nearing completion and is a good example of the excellent and painstaking Restoration work of Wood of Huddersfield. The Opening Recital will take place in the New Year as soon as the Organ has 'settled down'.
New Developments ahead. The P.C.C. has been granted a Faculty to build a gallery at the West end of the Church which will house a kitchenette, a safe storage for cleaning equipment and an accessible W.C. underneath it and the Organ upon it. This will enable the Church to extend the social outreach it at present offers to the local and wider community. At the moment of writing grants are being sought towards the cost of the work which will be in the region of £75,000. Well-wishers are invited to make donations to the funds and cheques should be made payable to Carlton P.C.C.
A major boost to the Funds has been made by the Grant of £58,766 from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust for which the Parochial Church Council is very grateful. We are, however still in need of funds to replace the Heating System and to provide a Hearing Loop.
Although the Church building has been out of use for 13 months the Worshipping Congregation has continued to meet for Worship in the Parish Hall where the Mass has been celebrated each Sunday.
As soon as the Major Works are completed there will be a Blessing of the Works by the Bishop.
