Walsingham Group & Fred Dangerfield Memorial Icon

A number of our congregation belong to the Society of Our Lady of Walsingham and are members of the Cheshunt Deanery Cell. The "Cell" (just another word for group) meets at Christ Church for regular Masses and social gatherings. Everyone is welcome to join with us at any of the Services.

THE FRED DANGERFIELD MEMORIAL ICON

The Lady Chapel at Christ Church is home to a specially commission Icon dedicated to the memory of Mr Fred Dangerfield, who passed to glory on Holy Cross + 14th September, 2002 aged 86.

Fred was a long standing member of the congregation at Christ Church where he was a dedicated Altar Server and daily Mass attendee. He had a great love and devotion for Walsingham, as having been stationed nearby during the war, he knew Fr. Hope Patten the restorer of the Shrine and spent a great deal of time in Walsingham - he had many interesting and amusing tales to tell!

The icon painted by Mr Michael Cole (who also painted our Stations of the Cross), shows Lady Richeldis, the founder of the original Shrine, under the guidance of Our Lady, offering the present Shrine Church to Our Lord. The Icon was paid for by a number of Fred's friends and Walsingham Cell members as a fitting memorial for him.
