Sayings of William Gladstone
St David's ows its origins to the Mission founded by William Ewart Gladstone. Born in Liverpool, and with property at Bowring Park, Gladstone became four times Prime Minister of England. Gladstone was a devout Christian and his beliefs were reflected in his politics.
The following are some sayings taken from his speeches. Although over a 100 years old, they are suprisingly up-to-date.
Be happy with what you have and are, be generous with both, and you won't have to hunt for happiness.
Justice delayed is justice denied.
Nothing that is morally wrong can be politically right.
No one ever became great except through many and great mistakes.
Remember the rights of the savage, as we call him. Remember that the happiness of his humble home, remember that the sanctity of life in the hill villages of Afghanistan, among the winter snows, is as inviolable in the eye of Almighty God, as can be your own.
Selfishness is the greatest curse of the human race.
