St John the Baptist

Welcome to St John the Baptist Tunstall a friendly parish church situated in the stunning Lune Valley. It is part of the joint parishes of St Peter's, Leck and St Wilfrid's, Melling and is a member church of the Benefice of East Lonsdale. A church at Tunstall is recorded in the Domesday Survey but the oldest structure in the present church dates from C.13th.  In the early C.19th the church was attended by the Brontë sisters during the year they attended the Clergy Daughter's School at nearby Cowan Bridge. St John the Baptist offers a range of services more details of which can be found lower down this page.

"The parish of Tunstall: St. John the Baptist and Melling: St. Wilfred and Leck: St Peter is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Blackburn’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services."
