Celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee,

Jubilee Celebrations at St. Andrew’s

In celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we remember her role as head of the Church of England – a position that all monarchs have held since it was founded by Henry VIII in the 1530s.

We are celebrating the occasion at St. Andrew’s with a display of its history and the societies, clubs and organisations that are active in the Parish.

We have invited the local societies, clubs, pubs and other organisations to be part of the display. There will be a history of the church – which goes back over 1,000 years - and a variety of symbols, images and emblems to represent the Queen’s 70 year reign in the life of the parish.

The church will be open to visitors over the Friday and Saturday as well as on Sunday after the Jubilee service.

The Display

· A history of the church in the parish in words and pictures created by the History Society

· A booklet summarising the early history of the building together with the story of the restorations, repairs and styles of decoration. And the social history tells of the ups and downs as family life has changed and the congregation and style of worship has changed too.

· A gift book, ‘Our Faithful Queen’, with photos and prayers written for the Queen by the then Archbishop of Canterbury as she prepared for her coronation
