HMS Fittleton

In September 1976, a Royal Navy Minesweeper named after our village sank on exercise in the North Sea. 12 sailors tragically lost their lives in the incident. More details of what occurred can be found here https://tcaminesweepers.co.uk/about/fittleton-memorial/

With the help of many generous donors, we raised enough money to erect a permanent memorial on the wall of our church to the men who died. This was unveiled on 17th September 2023 by the Bishop of Salisbury.

Our church is open to visitors every day during normal hours, so please do come and visit the plaque and pay your respects.
