St Thomas`s Church serves a small parish community of 1`300 people. The church overlooks the town centre and is a familiar landmark to the people of Halifax thanks to the luminous cross which makes the church easy to spot from the town.
St Thomas`s is the sister of church of St Anne`s in Southowram; a United Benefice under the care of it`s Vicar, Fr Guy Jamieson. There is a small congregation of approximately 25 adults who gather each Sunday for the Parish Mass at 11am. There is a small number of children, some of whom sing with the choir or serve at the altar. A Junior Church operates once a month at the same time, and which also enjoys a range of activities and services at festival times of the year; and a new drama group has grown with the combined talents of local children and adults.
During the week a said Mass is offerd on Tuesday evenigs at 7.15pm. This sometimes includes one or two hymns.
Amongst the other groups and activities is a Ladies Guild who have a broad range of visiting speakers; a Drop-In which meets on the first Monday of each month; a Churches Together group which meets to arrange a variety of prayer, social and worship gatherings; a social and fundraising group; a link with a local care home which includes a weekly service; a link with the Mirfield Centre, Community and College, where Quiet Days, courses, and meditations are frequently held.
The running of St Thomas`s is the responsibilty of the Vicar and Parish Church Council.
