At a recent meeting, a relatively new member of our church described us as 'a small congregation with a big heart' and we like to think that's true. If you attend any of our services, you can be sure of a very warm welcome.
We are, of course, proud of our heritage but we are also a forward-looking and ambitious congregation. We are a close Christian community seeking to fulfil God's mission for us in this lovely place.
We are part of the Ashby and Breedon Team Ministry, which comprises six parishes and seven church buildings. Our Team Rector, the Reverend Mary Gregory is based at St Helen's Rectory, Ashby-de-la-Zouch and works with other clergy across the team.
At Coleorton, we currently hold our services in three different buildings. Most regular services are at 10:30 am, with the exception of Messy Church, which is at 3:30 pm.
On the first and second Sundays in the month, our services are at the small but lovely St John's Chapel, Ashby Road, Coleorton, (next to Viscount Beaumont C of E Primary school, with which we have strong links.) Here there is ample roadside parking with level access to the chapel.
The much larger ancient parish Church of St Mary's stands in front of Coleorton Hall and can be accessed from the A512 by following the 'church only' sign. (Once you leave the main road, you will see a gate to your left which is always open during service times and provides parking along the lane leading up to the lodge. )
Services take place here on the third Sunday of each month and also on festival dates such as Christmas, Palm Sunday and Easter Day. (Please be aware that the path up to the church is steep but that if you are not very mobile, Reverend Mary can make arrangements for you to access the church through the private Coleorton Hall grounds.)
On the fourth Sunday of the month, we meet in the afternoon at Viscount Beaumont School for 'Messy Church'. This is an informal all age session which begins with a range of activities for the children to enjoy while the adults join in or just enjoy a cuppa and time to chat. The bible-themed activities then feed into a short talk, and a lively all-age act of worship, including a quiet time of reflection which is appreciated by adults and children alike.
On the occasional fifth Sunday of the month, we join with the rest of our team at one of our seven church buildings.
A range of other special services take place in Coleorton throughout the year, including at least one service per term with the staff and children of the school.
Social events are held throughout the year and detailed in our magazine, which can be delivered on request; there is also a bible study group which meets once a month.
So there you have it! If you are looking for a big town church, you will no doubt head into Ashby -de-la-Zouch, but if you want small, friendly and distinctively Coleorton, we would be delighted to meet you! If you would like further information, or would prefer a more personal introduction, please contact Reverend Mary Gregory, 01530 564372, (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we would be happy to tell you more and/or arrange for one of our congregation to offer you a lift to church.
