Dorchester-on-Thames is a small, picturesque village set amidst water meadows where the River Thame joins the River Thames, just 8 miles south of Oxford. It has one of the largest churches in Oxfordshire, which stands on the site of a Saxon cathedral built by St Birinus in the seventh century.
The Abbey (www.dorchester-abbey.org.uk) is the parish church of the village and has been a site of worship for over 1300 years. Come and join us in worship and prayer.
Delve into the history of this ancient building and explore it for yourself. Feel the atmosphere created by the contrasting simplicity of the Norman walls and arches and the unparalleled C14 splendour of the east end. Simon Jenkins, in his book "England's 1000 Best Churches", gave the Abbey a 4-star rating. There is much to see and marvel at.
