St Peter's is Dorchester's historic town-centre church. The present building dates back to 1454 and has associations with the writers Thomas Hardy and William Barnes, and historical figures such Denzil, Lord Holles, the Earl of Shaftesbury and John White, 'the founder of Massachusetts'.
