PROCLAIM!
We have being thinking together about how we can proclaim the love of Christ through friendship, fun and witness, and we have, already, some great opportunities for fulfilling this, our first goal!
On Sunday June 3rd we are having an all-age community celebration service in thanksgiving for the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Hopefully we will have it outside in the churchyard, in the sun! It will be at 11am, a non-eucharistic service open to everyone, so we hope you can invite a friend or neighbour. Bring a garden chair please! (On this Sunday there will be the usual 8am Eucharist and a short simple Eucharist at 9.30am, with no hymns). This will be followed by the Big Lunch. This is a bring and share lunch and a list will be out soon so you can note down what item of food you can bring. We will be inviting the residents who live in close proximity to the church, and you can bring a friend to the service and lunch of course (asking them to bring a little food to share!) Again, we hope to have this outside in the carpark, decorated with bunting and flags, music playing!
The next day, there will be a procession in Seaford town ending at the Martello Fields where there will be lots of stalls. The churches are having a ‘prayer zone’ where we will offer prayer and information on the churches, based in a marquee. This will be a great opportunity to give a gentle witness together in the town.
Then, after the summer, we have another great chance to witness to our faith. We hope to have an Open day at Church on Saturday 6 October. There will be harvest displays – Harvest is the next day – and displays about all that goes on at St Peter’s, so we need a display for each of our activities. In addition there will be 4 places in church where visitors can pray, lighting a candle, praying with stones, a prayer tree and perhaps some of the Rector’s icons on the altar! Please put the date in your diary now! This was one of the targets identified in our Mission Action Plan, and as we are not having a flower festival this year the Ministry and Mission team thought it would be great thing for Harvest.
So we are on our way! The Risen Christ is travelling with us!
