Our Parish Priest: Father David Burrows
Originally from North Derbyshire, I studied Theology and Religious Studies at Leeds University. My preparation for the priesthood took me to Lincoln Theological College, and I have completed further post-graduate study at the University College of Trinity and All Saints, Leeds. Ordained deacon in 1988 and priest in 1989, in Ripon Cathedral, I have served in mining, inner city, urban and residential parishes in Leeds and Calderdale, and as a Hospital Chaplain. From 2002 I have served as Priest and Hospice Chaplain in Elland, and as Rural Dean of the Brighouse and Elland Deanery since 2008.
I am married with two children, and among my interests are Art and Architecture, Victorian Studies, Railways, Travel, the mighty whites, Leeds United, together with Leeds Rhinos and the greatest game of all…Rugby League Football.
I am a professed member of the Third Order of the Society of S.Francis (TSSF), an Anglican Religious Order, and of the Society of Catholic Priests. I am also a Priest Associate of the Holy House of Our Lady of Walsingham, and a member of the Chaplaincy professional body, the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care Chaplains.
As a part of the people of God in Elland, we do our best to be united in prayer, service and witness to the Gospel, but we are not immune to all that is going on in the wider church. As catholic Christians within the Anglican tradition, we are learning what it means to seek unity in diversity. Both Integrities are conscientiously held here, and you will find a variety of views over sexuality.
