Father Matthew Askey
New Assistant Curate for Elland Team
On Sunday the 5th of July we welcome our new Assistant Curate to the Parish. Father Matthew Askey will be joining us after training at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, over the last two years. He will be working alongside Fr. David and the Pastoral Team for the next three years. Matthew and his family will live in the Clergy House on Victoria Road, to be known as St.Michael’s House.
Matthew is married to Helen and they have a one year old son, Samuel. Before beginning his Ordination training, Matthew was an art teacher, working in Adult Education and Special Needs for Halifax and Barnsley education services. Matthew lists his other interests as painting, music, reading and gardening. His work as a Contemporary Artist is featured here.
The welcome service for Matthew is on Sunday, 5th July, 10am, at St. Mary’s, Elland. The guest preacher is to be the Very Rev’d Jonathan Greener, Dean of Wakefield. His Ordination as a Deacon takes place the previous day in Wakefield Cathedral.
