In May 2005, Celia Kilner's Exhibition of Angels was launched in Holmfirth Parish Church. The sixty Angels painted on foam board are taken from paintings of angels from across the world and across the ages, starting in the Fifth Century Egypt and range in size from 2ft 6ins to 11ft 6ins. They include the "Angel of the Resurrection" from an Arabian manuscript, an Indian angel holding an Asp and a group of angels by Hans Memling, who died in Bruges in 1494. Nearer to our own time there is a Pre-Raphaelite style "St Cecilia" by J W Waterhouse.
Since the successful exhibition in Holmfirth, the Angels have been "on tour" and been displayed in churches in Leicestershire, Hull, Knaresborough, Jarrow, Malvern and part of the exhibition in Cowcliffe - raising in total over £45,000.
