Emmanuel is a lively and inclusive community in the Church of England and worldwide Anglican Commuion.  Our Church has stood in its prominent place at the heart of West Hampstead, next to West End Green since 1897.

We would see ourselves as generously orthodox and everyone is warmly welcome at all our services and activities, irrespective of race, age, physical ability, way of life or sexual orientation.

We rejoice in the great and wonderful diversity of God’s creation and we recognize and celebrate the beauty of his image in one another.

We much look forward to welcoming you in person.

Our Mission Statement

We, the people of Emmanuel, West Hampstead seek to be faithful to “the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers (Acts 2:42) and to authenticate this in acts of love and service to one another and to the community in which we are set, showing God’s generous and inclusive love to all.

Some quotations which sum up our core values

“I have come that you might have life and have it in abundance”
(Jesus Christ – John 10:10)

“The glory of God is a human being fully alive”
(St Irenaeus 130-200 AD)

“Be who God created you to be and you will set the world on fire”
(St Catherine of Siena 1347-80 AD)

“Your ordinary acts of love and hope point to the extraordinary promise that every human life is of inestimable value”
(Archbishop Desmond Tutu, b 1931)

Sung Eucharist
Our more traditional service on a Sunday is the 10.30 am Sung Eucharist and lasts for about one hour. As its name implies, music is an integral part of the service which is traditional in style with thoughtful and reflexive preaching. Come and join us and find out what it's all about. We welcome everyone. You are especially welcome if you want to meet a lively congregation and get to know people over refreshments afterwards. During the Eucharist, Children's Church meets in the room off the north east porch. The children start the Eucharist in Church with the congregation and then process out for their activities after the collect of the day, for fun activities and worship which most connect with them, returning to church for holy communion / blessings. On the first Sunday of each month, children play a full part in the service, serving at the altar, reading the scriptures, leading the prayers and singing in our children's choir. Babies and young children can use the books and cushions in the creche facility in the community room in the south aisle, but they remain the responsibility of their parents. Ask the people on the door about anything you wish to know they will be able to help you or point out someone who can answer your query.
