St Paul’s, Burnthouse Lane and the WASP project.
The Burnthouse Lane estate, built after the war, has a great sense of unity and community. Its church though, began to look rather forlorn, set back from the road and subject to an increasing amount of petty vandalism. Eventually the sad decision was taken to demolish it, though with the hope of building something more striking.
At the same time we were able to employ a Children and Community worker and set up WASP (Wonford and St Paul’s). Its worker, Andy Shiach, is active in the schools locally and in the community, building links and offering help. We believe in this way we are playing a significant part in local life. At present the few left from the St Paul’s congregation worship in other churches in our Team, but we hope to establish more local worship soon.
