The domed top to the tower is a special feature of the Gayton church tower which shows well from the roads approaching the village. On the four corners are the emblems of the evangelists, now much weathered. They are the winged man for St Matthew, a lion for St Mark, an ox for St Luke and an eagle for St John.
Location. Towards the eastern end of the village on the B1145. Map reference TF 730192.
Car parking is available on the south side of the church – accessed from Back Street through the entrance to Church Farm Barns. Toilets are available at service and event times. They are not open to the public at other times to prevent vandalism.
Gayton Church will reopen to the public on Monday 24th October 2011 following extensive building work. The church is open from 9am to dusk daily.
Please come & visit and see all the work that has been done. We have over come many obstacles along the way. Many large cracks were found in walls causing considerable additional work. a bat survey cost us dearly only finding one common bat.
We now have to start fund raising again before moving on to the next project.
We have created a new web site with lots of parish information; go to www.gaytongroupofparishes.org
This is a much easier web site to use and will now contain all our news. Details of our team will remain on this site.
