The Choir and our music

Music

The Good Shepherd has a strong musical tradition. An anthem is sung at the Sunday morning Eucharist and the music performed ranges from 17th century to modern.

The acoustic is sympathetic to a wide range of music. Two local choirs practise regularly in the church, and Brighton Festival and local choir concerts and a few instrumental recitals take place each year. Regular use, including at concerts, is made of our well maintained grand piano.

The choir welcomes new members both adult and junior.

Organ

The organ is a 2 manual Harrison & Harrison instrument, fully used in our worship and for occasional recitals and is generally regarded as an instrument of some distinction. Whilst fully maintained since its installation in 1928 it is in need of a major overhaul.  The feasibility of this, together with potential sources of external funding, is actively being considered.
