A beautiful medieval 12C - 14C Grade 1 Listed Church in a picturesque setting overlooking Hanwell Castle with its redbrick towers from the Tudor period.
There is a Norman font, and there are carved stone figures on the capitals in the nave. On the exterior of the chancel there are some unique carved stone friezes depicting medieval bestiary, which were cleaned and conserved in 1996. There is a monument to Anthony Cope. It is recorded that Cromwell's horses were stabled in the church during the Civil War, and that his soldiers damaged various of the sculptures. The unusual clock has no face only striking the hours."Sir Anthony Cope, his gift. George Harris, Fritwell. January 1671." Designed by "great virtuoso" Sir Anthony Cope of Hanwell Castle and made by George Harris. After repair in 1774 the clock was placed here.
