The Friends of St Mary's and St John's is the group which helps to care for the church building. St Mary's is over 850 years old and is starting to shew its age! The church was originally part of a monastic foundation, although the priory was dissolved under Henry VIII.
The Friends of St Mary's and St John's was formed to raise money to restore the windows in St Mary's church. Over the past 20 years the Friends have raised about £200,000.
The Friends are currently raising money to help
St Mary's roof restoration project (cost in excess of £100,000)
St John's repairs and addition of a loo and kitchen (cost c. £100,000)
The Friends hold various fundraising events including a spectacular fireworks and bonfire evening, quizzes and some concerts. Watch the calendar section for details of forthcoming events.
