St Mary Magdalene Church is the Church of England Parish Church in the Hatfield Hyde Area of Welwyn Garden City, UK. The Church belongs to the Worldwide Anglican Communion of Churches. It is in the Diocese of St Albans (Bishop: The Right Reverend Christopher Herbert) and the Welwyn and Hatfield Deanery
The building dates from 1881 and was originally part of Lord Salisbury’s estate centred around Hatfield House. However as Welwyn Garden City expanded in the 1940’s, ‘50’s, & 60’s so the small hamlet of Hatfield Hyde was incorporated into it. It now serves a large parish numbering over 25000, with new house building underway.
Today the church is a thriving Christian community, united in the worship of God, and reaching out to serve our local community. We are in the central/catholic tradition of the Church of England, however as a local church we seek to include the best of all the breadth of the Christian tradition of worship and life within our church.
