St Mary Magdalene

St Mary Magdalene's church has been here, on Hollybush Lane, worshipping God and serving the community since 1882. We are in the catholic tradition of the Church of England. Expect robes, candles, traditional hymns, contemporary music, moments of stillness, time-honoured prayers, and relaxed formality.

We seek to be a church for the whole local community, and to welcome all with generous hospitality, sharing the love of God.

On Sundays we do many of the things that Christians have been doing for millenia. We celebrate the Eucharist at 10am. ‘Eucharist’ is the Greek word for thanksgiving. We sing with joy, we pray knowing that God loves us and hears our prayers. We read the Bible, hearing the story of God and God’s people, knowing that we too are part of that story. We take, bless, brake and share the bread and wine of Holy Communion, knowing that as we do so, Christ is present with us.

The service lasts about an hour. There’s no formal dress code – come as you are (your jeans are fine!). You can expect hymns with organ, more contemporary songs from different genres, and music from right across the centuries. Children are always welcome.

After the service we love to spend time getting to know one another over Tea, Coffee and biscuits.
