St Laurence

A warm welcome to the St Laurence Church, Hawkhurst website.

We are a friendly, welcoming congregation.

St Laurence is part of the Weald Deanery and Diocese of Canterbury.

The Vicar and people of St. Laurence, Hawkhurst invite you to experience Christianity as a way of life, not just a set of creeds and doctrines demanding agreement. We invite you to join us as we seek to discover and recover the meaning of the gospel for our time, looking to the Sacraments, Scripture, Faith, Reason and Music — interpreted by love.

At St. Laurence we believe that what Jesus teaches and reveals to us about God is equally as important as what the Church through the ages has taught us about Jesus. We believe in the freedom of conscience, the responsibility of every believer to work out his or her own salvation in response to the grace of God, and the obligation of faithful men and women to become partners with God in building the kingdom.

We take the Sacraments and Holy Scriptures seriously and believe that in our time the Church must recover, above all, and in line with the Church’s teaching and practise, its radical hospitality — welcoming all persons into her midst as they are.
