St Lawrence is a modern building with excellent facilities for the disabled.

It suits those who do not like pews! The congregation are close together and this engenders a sense of warmth and friendliness.

St Lawrence’s Church was built to serve the new building which sprung up after the war. It is named after St Lawrence because an ancient church of that dedication was bombed and destroyed in the Exeter blitz.

The building is in part a hall – well used by the community – with a church area screened off at the front. There are two services every week:

Sunday 10.30am – Mass with hymns.

Friday 9.30am – Said Mass.

On the second Sunday of the month the Eucharist is at 9.30am and a lay-led more informal service called ‘Open Doors’ follows at 10.30am.  The congregation enjoys both the set liturgy of the Eucharist and the informality of Open Doors.

The congregation enthusiastically reach out to their neighbours. Activities include holding coffee mornings on the green on the Thornpark Rise estate and a monthly Film Night, making use of the excellent audio-visual equipment. Though it is not legal to advertise the films to be shown, it is worth checking out because the quality is very high and people can watch for free (donations welcome)
