St Andrew's was built in 1897 in the village of Holmfield, 2½ miles from Halifax, in the Wakefield Diocese. The area, with pleasant countryside on its doorstep, has mixed housing and industry and is well-served by local amenities. The church, described by a former priest, the Revd John Cobb, as "the little church amidst the hills", has a cosy interior, seating approximately 100 worshippers. Sadly, the Sunday School building on an adjacent site had to be demolished in recent years but the money from the sale of the land (with outline planning permission for houses) allowed for the refurbishment of the church which now has a multi-purpose layout and a meeting room behind the altar.
The North Halifax Group of Churches is made up of St Andrew's, Holmfield, a Joint Benefice with St John the Evangelist, Bradshaw and St Mary's, Illingworth, a Joint Benefice with Holy Nativity, Mixenden.
Our style of worship is relaxed, central in churchmanship but accepting the best of most traditions. The liturgy follows Common Worship and clergy and servers robe. We mainly use ‘Mission Praise’ for our hymns.
