The Victorian church of Holt St James was completed in 1835 as
a replacement for an earlier chapel which was recorded as
existing in 1368. It is a simple building with some beautiful
stained glass windows and a very fine Jacobean pulpit. This had
become redundant in Wimborne Minster and so was brought to
Holt in 1875. There is also a carved oak reredos which was
erected in 1902. There are strengthening links with the school
at Gaunt’s Common and the children are encouraged to come to
the All Age Service with their families. The church is also used
for their concerts and services. There are also strong links with
the village communities in and around Holt.
