St Peter's church in Holtye is a typical small Victorian country church.
The present structure was rebuilt in the 1890s from an earlier building of 1836 - why this was necessary is not currently known.
The church was originally intended as a chapel-of-ease to Hartfield church, a few miles to the south but became part of the new Parish of Hammerwood and Holtye in 1880 when St Stephen's church in Hammerwood was completed.
St Peter's Church officially closes on Wednesday 1st August after around 170 years of use for public Christian worship.
Services will of course continue at St Stephen's Hammerwood and at St Mary Magdalene Cowden.
This page will continue to be maintained to give news on the future of the church buiding in Holtye.
