Our vision - 'Growing God's kingdom by knowing Jesus and making Him known'
Our vicar is Clive Devonish and curate is Caroline Friswell. Clive is married to Cyndi who heads up our pastoral care ministry. He oversees two churches – St John’s in Greenside and Holy Spirit in nearby Crawcrook both are in the borough of Gateshead.
We love Jesus and turn church 'inside out'. The first Saturday of the month sees 'Healing on the Streets’ in Crawcrook where we offer to pray for people. Alpha courses are run too. Check out www.greensideparish.org.uk for testimonies, photo gallery and Outreach Magazine that reaches every home in Greenside, Crawcrook and Clara Vale. Or 'listen again' to Sunday sermons, great for those on holiday, at work or housebound.
Children have a great time, starting at crèche, through to Bubbles and Splash. Young people and teenagers start in Extreme through to RockSolidRock.
Revd. Clive says “Those who want to see God's Kingdom and His Church grow, fully support the vision of the Church. The whole spiritual attitude of the Church is changing as we move out of our comfort zones, aiming to be the Church God intended for us. We are not perfect, but yearn to be what God requires of us.
I am so excited at what is going on here - seeing lives change; people meeting with our risen Lord and Saviour; lives given to Jesus; receiving His Holy Spirit (especially at Alpha Away Days); seeing someone in a morning service be instantly healed (Praise the LORD!) from severe back problems of that had lasted 9 years. As we give God the freedom to be God, He is encouraging us in other areas too.
Originally from a Roman Catholic background, I have experienced other denominations and styles of worship. I do not hide my colours and stand firmly on the evangelical / charismatic foundation. I believe that God has given His Church the wonderful Gifts of the Spirit to be used faithfully, with integrity, wisdom and basic common sense - to glorify His Holy name. The use of the gifts should always be undergirded by love and prayer.
My desire is to see Church work in unity, selflessly proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and deed through an all-member-ministry attitude, focusing firstly on personal relationships with God and then His people - loving them into the Kingdom to find His wholeness, healing, fulfilment and restoration”.
