SPECIAL NEWS - NEW BEGINNING

Easter Day 2014 will always be remembered as a new beginning – for Anglicans in this part of the world anyway. This is the day that we become part of the new diocese of “West Yorkshire and the Dales.” The three dioceses of Ripon and Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield have given up their independent existence to become part of something bigger. The Rt Revd Nick Baines is the first Bishop of the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales and the Area Bishop of Leeds. He says “Let’s walk this new journey together as we forge new friendships, cross old boundaries, and shape a vision for this new Diocese. I am excited by what lies ahead of us.”

St. Paul's is a relatively modern and distinctive church building. Built in 1965 it is eight-sided with a crowning cupola containing the bell. It stands just below the highest point of the City of Leeds. Internally it has a large unobstructed worship area with seating for over 300 people.  There is an adjoining church hall and meeting room (Jubilee Room) which are used by the church and local community.

The church serves a large parish comprising mostly post-war housing both social and private. There are three primary and one high school in the parish, also the Holt Park Centre comprising supermarket, shops, OPAL centre, Ralph Thoresby High School, Holt Park Library and the new Holt Park Active leisure and wellbeing centre.
