TUDORS 1485-1603
In 1538 the Bible, printed and in English, was placed, and read, in Church. In 1539 the nomination of the Rector of the Parish passed into the hands of Christ's College, Cambridge. In 1549 Services were read in English, the first Prayer Book of Edward the Sixth being used. In 1553 there were "foore great belles in the stepell" (a fifth was added in 1613; and all were re-cast and one more added in 1874). In 1556 the Church Registers began.
About 1556 the Clerestory was built (note 'Perpendicular' style of windows); the roof altered from pointed to almost flat, with carved figures at the corbels.
COMMONWEALTH
From 1649 to 1860, the period of the Revolution, there was much disturbance of everything; Services at times entirely suspended; Rector driven out.
