WHEN I SURVEY... Christ's cross and ours

This is the title of the Lent course chosen this year by Churches Together in Kirby Muxloe and LFE.   It is produced by York Courses.  Several courses will be run in the homes of members of both the Parish Church and Kirby Muxloe Free Church.

The death of Christ is a dominant and dramatic theme in the New Testament. So it’s not surprising that, over the centuries, the Cross has become the symbol of the Christian faith. But Christians do not honour a dead hero; we worship a Living Lord.

According to the Bible, the death of Jesus is not the end of a track – it’s the gateway into life. His crucifixion gives rise to many key themes and we will explore some of these in this course including: the place of silence in our noisy world; despair and hope; a suffering world; the challenge of living as disciples when Christianity is no longer mainstream …

Session 1 (week beginning 21 February) – Darkness at Noon
Session 2 (week beginning 28 February) - Into Great Silence
Session 3 (week beginning 7 March) - The Child on the Cross
Session 4 (week beginning 14 March) - Outside a City Wall
Session 5 (week beginning 21 March)- Touching the Rock

All groups will join for supper on Tuesday 30th March.

In each session the group will listen to a 14-minute audio recording of speakers John Bell, General Sir Richard Dannatt and Dr Christina Baxter. Dr David Hope introduces the course and Colin Morris provides the Closing Reflection at the end of each session. Each participant on the course will have a booklet (£3.50), written by Revd Dr John Pridmore, which includes questions aimed at provoking wide-ranging discussion.
