We are aiming to run Alpha courses regularly within our Church of England Parish (which covers Plaistow, Ifold and Kirdford), following successful courses in 2003, 2005, 2008 (twice) and 2009. For more details see the links on our main web page or articles in the Parish News.
For anyone who is not familiar with the Alpha course, it’s a series of weekly talks addressing key issues relating to Christian faith and spirituality. Each evening consists of socialising over a meal, then listening to a talk (either on video or by a guest speaker) about some aspect of Christianity, followed by a discussion over coffee with fellow participants in small groups – with any and all views & opinions being welcome. It really is an opportunity to explore for yourself, in a relaxed and non-threatening setting, what Christianity has to offer – and to enjoy yourself in the process!
The Alpha course is not exclusive to any denomination or style of Christianity, but is endorsed by all the major Christian denominations, including Anglican, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Pentecostal, Salvation Army and Free Churches. Thousands of Alpha courses have been run worldwide since the course was developed about fifteen years ago.
The course is open to everyone, especially those wanting to investigate Christianity, new Christians & churchgoers, or anyone wanting to ‘brush up on the basics’. There is no charge, though donations to help cover costs are welcome. And it doesn’t matter if you miss an evening or two – just come along to the next one.
