THE PARISH VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT

The Church of England in the Parish of Knaresborough aims to present the Christian Gospel in such a way that it may be known and joyfully experienced by all people.

A warm welcome awaits you at St John's church in Knaresborough. We would love for you to join us for one or more of our acts of worship, or perhaps you may just want to spend some time with God in these pleasant surroundings. The church can be found near the railway station.

St John's is a beautiful and ancient parish church but it is not just a nostalgic reminder of ancient Christian England. It has a living, vibrant and committed worshipping congregation. People have worshipped in this building for nearly a thousand years and we join our prayers and worship with theirs. Where better to praise God than in this incredible setting?

The Knaresborough Team comprises four churches combined into a single parish: two village churches, St John the Baptist, Brearton and St Mary the Virgin, Goldsborough and two town churches Holy Trinity and this one.

Our style of worship would best be described as traditional, done really well. We have one of the finest choirs who take great joy in praising God with their voices in sung Eucharist’s and Choral Evensongs. We offer monthly 'All-Age' worship, designed with familes and young children in mind and enjoyed by people of all ages. If the Book of Common Prayer is your spiritual preference then we would be very happy to welcome you at one of those services too.

We are delighted to baptise children and adults who live in the parish and to marry those who qualify. For further information or to make a booking please contact the Parish Administrator, Chrissy Wilson, who is based in the Team Office. The office is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm. The office phone number is (01423) 869209.

The church is open from early morning until late afternoon every day and many people visit it for prayer or just out of interest. We regularly have a var

Daily Office
Since the days of the Early Church, Christians have gathered together to worship, pray and read the Scriptures. The Daily Offices, sustained in monastic communities and by the clergy, combines these three elements in services that are both simple and enriching. Church of England Clergy, as part of our ordination vows, promise to read these Offices morning and evening. The Clergy of the Knaresborough Team meet each weekday (other than Wednesday when there are regular Communion Services) to say the Office and pray. We warmly invite anyone who wishes to do so, to join us. Each Office lasts a maximum of 30 minutes. We Meet as follows: Monday - 9am in Holy Trinity (first Monday of the month in St Mary's, Goldsborough) Tuesday - 8:30 Holy Communion in the St Edmund Chapel in St John's Church, Knaresborough. Sunday

Book of Common Prayer
Holy Communion, Book of Common Prayer style, is a service which shows off the beauty of the traditional English language. There are no hymns in this service and for those familiar with The Book of Common Prayer we use Order Two. This much loved service with its use of Old English lends itself beautifully to a church with this much history.
Every Sunday at 8:00 AM for ½ hour
Bridges All Age Worship
This is a short service (approximately 45 minutes) when people of all ages worship, learn and pray together (and hopefully have fun too). Informal yet structured, the service offers hymns, participation and times of quiter reflection. Holy Communion is not available at this service.
Every first Sunday at 10:30 AM for ¾ hour
Family Friendly Coffee
Parish Communion
This very popular service includes hymns, prayers of intercession, Bible readings and a sermon. In the sharing of bread and wine, this service helps us to remember Jesus Christ's death and resurrection.
Every second fourth and fifth Sunday at 10:30 AM for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Sunday School Coffee
Choral Eucharist
The Choral Eucharist is sung to a different choral setting each month. This service also includes congregational hymns, prayers of intercession, Bible readings and a sermon. In the sharing of bread and wine, this service helps us to remember Jesus Christ's death and resurrection.
Every third Sunday at 10:30 AM for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Sunday School Coffee

Informal Prayers
St John's offers a prayer station where people may write their prayers down and place them on a board. We believe that the prayers of the wider community are just as important as the prayers of our weekly worshippers. Therefore an informal, short service is held weekly where we meet to read the prayer notes and pray with you.
