Children and young people are always welcome at St. John and All Saints Church.
Parents are encouraged to bring children of under school age to services and there is a special carpeted crèche area in the Church. Here there are toys for the children and someone will be on hand to help if there are difficulties.
Older children of school age are welcome to join Young People's Church (YPC), which meets every Sunday at 10.30am at the same time as the Service in Church. YPC meets in the Community Centre in Harwood Road and joins the adults in Church towards the end of the Service. Together with the adults YPC returns to the Community Centre for refreshments. There is a child protection policy in place and all leaders have attended training.
YPC is led by a group of leaders, who teach children using material from Roots, which is material based on the Revised Common Lectionary.
This teaching gives young people the opportunity to learn about God, Jesus and the Church in a relaxed setting, using crafts, music, and drama. Young people are taught and encouraged in their faith and this can lead, as appopriate, to Baptism, Receiving Communion before Confirmation and Confirmation. At special times of the year, eg Mothering Sunday, Christmas, Harvest, the young people have contributed to the main service. The local uniformed organisations are also particularly invited to these services. Social events have included New Years Party, summer family Barbecue.
We do feel that Young People are a vital and vibrant part of the Church today at St. Johns.
