Welcome to the parish church of Landewednack: St Wynwallow in the Anglican Diocese of Truro and county of Cornwall England.

St Wynwallow is a traditional Anglican Church and is a grade 2 listed building. It was founded sometime in the sixth century, but nothing remains of the earlier building. The oldest existing part of the church is the Norman doorway; the rest of the church is fifteen century with some Victorian improvements and modern additions of electric organ and electric heating.  It’s located in Church Cove, a sheltered valley that once was covered with Elm trees.  Now that they are gone the Church is open to some fantastic views of the sea. 

 Introduction to The Lizard

The Lizard is located on the most southerly peninsula on mainland Briton.  This quiet little village is ten miles away from Helston, which is our local town that has all other amenities like supermarkets.  There is a regular bus service to Helston. The nearest train stations are Redruth, Truro or Penzance. There is also an Airport at Newquay which has regular services to all parts of the U.K.  The main employment of the village, like many is tourism.

In the Spring and Summer months visitors come down to the area for many reasons, bird watchers, family holidays by local beaches and of course walkers who come here to enjoy the coastal path and stunning landscapes and views that make it an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”

 The school is well attended, and has a nursery and after school club, which has the support of the local residents. The previous incumbent developed a good relationship with the head of the school and did regular morning assemblies once a week.

The villagers are very proud of the life boat station and over the last couple of years have been fundraising to build a bigger station, to house one of the newest lifeboats.  There are several shops, a good butcher shop, Post Office, pub, and cafes that sell delicious cream teas and other delights

.Although the village is called ‘The Lizard’ it does in fact belong to the Parish of Landewednack. Landewednack is nestled in a sheltered valley called Church Cove a quarter a mile away from the villageThe parish church of Landewednack which is dedicated to St Wynwallow is thought to have been founded as a daughter church of the abbey of Landevennec in Brittney France by one of its monks.
