ST MARY LASTINGHAM was founded c.654 as a Celtic monastery by St Cedd of Lindisfarne, as a place of prayer and hospitality - which it still is. The existing church was built on its site from 1078, and is famous for its unique Norman crypt. It is one of the most visited churches in the area and is a popular venue for pilgimages.
