Leicester Cathedral is a church which has been loved and prayed in for hundreds of years, and which continues to develop. We became a Cathedral in 1927, and have a special responsibility to support the ministry of the Bishop and the work of the Diocese of Leicester. We also retain responsibilities to the local parish including its residents, those who work in this great, diverse city during the day, and the thousands who pass by during the night.
We are a place of quiet prayer for the many who drop in, and a base for outreach into the city and county. We sponsor particular projects working amongst asylum seekers and refugees, with those living with cancer, and a Street Pastor scheme at weekends.
Day by day, and Sunday by Sunday, the Cathedral Community meets here to worship. That is the heartbeat of this place, enabling it to be both a sanctuary and a powerhouse.
