St Anne's is a Traditional Anglican Parish. It is the oldest of the Lewes Curches, being a fine Grade One Norman Church, circa 1160s. It has a rare 12c Anchoress Cell, and a beamed ceiling from the 14c; (reputedly the Refectory ceiling from the Lewes Priory). The carved Pulpit is from 1620. On the south wall there is a good set of Arts and Crafts "Evangelist" Windows, by JM Jacobs, (1929). There is also an Easter Window in the Lady Chapel of which Pevsner said, "It is very terrible" But we don't think so!
The Churchmanship is essentially Modern Tractarian. Although Lewes does not have a parish church as such, St Anne's serves the needs of the Town Council and Crown Courts.
We are a friendly, welcoming congregation, offering traditional Anglican worship (Sundays at 10am.) When visiting Lewes, we warmly invite you to come and worship with us. You will find a fine church and a warm welcome, and a liturgy to feed the spirit. For more information visit our website on:
