The Rev’d Hailstone owned and lived in Anglesey Abbey and was the Vicar of Bottisham in the 1800’s. He felt strongly that Lode should have its own Church and built St James' to the designs of Rhode Hawkins. The Church was dedicated in 1853 and the family supplied a vicar for over 80 years.
The Church has a simple Gothic lancet style for the nave, chancel and western turret containing a clock and a bell. St James' is a grade II listed building and offers live music, wheelchair access and large print hymn books and orders of service. It also has toilet facilities.
Lode is one of five medieval Churches that form the Anglesey Group of Parishes with regulars working very hard to reach out and share the love of Christ. We provide regular Sunday services at 9.30am (usually communion) to meet the needs of local villagers. The Family service is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month and has a strong and vibrant life of its own. The last Sunday each month there is a Benefice Service.
