The eighteenth-century church of St John the Baptist, Lane End, was demolished following subsidence in the 1970s. In 1994, a new Rectory was built on the edge of St John's former churchyard, and as part of the complex a small Oratory Chapel was provided to commemorate the first church to serve the new town of Longton.
Seating only 30 people, it is a useful facility for small services and meetings. The Eucharist is celebrated there at 10.00 each Wednesday morning.
